The ICC World Cup 2011 will be hosted by three South Asian Test playing countries including India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is the 10th World Cup, the previous one was hosted by West Indies. This is the first time Bangladesh is co-hosting a world Cup. The World Cup take place between February 19 and April 2.
The first Match take place between India and Bangladesh on February 19 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The Finals will be played on April 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The 2011 World Cup will be played by dividing the overall 14 teams in to two groups.
The Groups are
Group A - | Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya |
Group B - | India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands |
Earlier some matches were scheduled at Pakistan, but on the wake of 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team the 14 matches scheduled has been shifted to other countries. Eight of Pakistan's matches have been awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.
Four teams from each group will be taken to the next round. In Quarter Finals each team will be played one match between them. The first four from Quarter Finals will be taken to Semi Finals.
